Mark Hugunin has spent decades refining his craft
and developing his unique artistic voice. After many
years of exploring various styles, subjects and themes
the artist has evolved a distinctive visual voice that
allows him to create startling artistic “machines” which
employ a collage aesthetic to evoke suggested
narratives. Incorporating pulp cultural images,
elaborate decorative motifs, advertising text and other
provocative images the artist has created a unique
“ultra pop” vision of the contemporary world and
current events.
Mark Hugunin has a degree in painting and
printmaking from San Diego State University and was
formerly an assistant to internationally renown glass
bead artist Lisa Lou. Previous gallery representation
includes Pacific Golden Arts Gallery of San Diego and
the Museum of the Living Artist also in San Diego,
where he had a solo show in August of 2004. The
artist primarily works in oil and has also won various
scholarships and best of show awards. Mark Hugunin
currently resides in the Phoenix area.
